Mind’s Journey is a body of 6 diverse works that explores the human mind on the path from self-loathing to self-acceptance. Through a variety of mediums, I attempt to not only document my own experiences on this well-trodden road, but also aid viewers in becoming aware of their own mental struggles. ‘from front//to back’ and ‘from beginning//to end’ use one medium (acrylics) to embody self-loathing and self-acceptance in their most natural forms, with the former symbolizing denial and the latter symbolizing freedom. ‘fractured’ and ‘roses’ incorporate a couple of unconventional materials (washi tape and rose petals) to portray detachment from reality and self-confidence, respectively. The climaxes of the portfolio use several unorthodox materials (such as pipe cleaners, newsprint, tulle, and wire) to display purging of negative emotions (‘centipedes’) and experimentation in self-expression (‘flight’).
