My favorite part of life is those delightfully sweet moments, ones that are almost saccharine; walking down an aisle at an apple orchard, drinking cold cherry coke at a movie theater, a cat falling asleep on your lap, laying on soft, freshly washed sheets. Moments that are so perfect they’re surreal, and the only things that affirm their existence are their inevitable fleeting.
My least favorite is any that pulls you into the real world; reading the latest IPCC report, contemplating what career to pursue that won’t leave you stuck with 100,000’s dollars of student loan debt. Moments that fill you with so much existential dread, that you have to count five things you can see. These moments always come to mind when adults try to contemplate why kids these days have so much anxiety and depression. You would think it’s obvious; it’s very difficult to remain hopeful in the prospect of living if your only moments of peace are the ones that offer an escape.
